First Serbian accelerator StartLabs added another company, WhoAPI to their portfolio. WhoAPI provides its customers with "extensive domain data and simplifying WHOIS". WhoAPI has already gone through acceleration program with 500 Startups, and is being used by Twitter, Wikipedia, King.com among others.
The winner of the PiratesOnShore pitching competition got tickets and support for the Pirate Summit! VapourApps is a startup that aims to help creating your own corporate Dropbox: storage, sharing, integration, collaboration and much more. On the past Friday, the Pirates on Shore tour brought the spirit of the Pirate Summit to Skopje. Three Macedonian startups had three minutes for their pitch and Q&A session with the speakers/jury. Next to the winners also DoxOut - a breakthrough cross-platform development technology that enables sharing of 90% of the code base across platforms - and TakeAnAdd that will try to simplify the social media aspect for SMEs by "creating beautiful facebooks on the go" got the chance to pitch and receive valuable feedback.
While Aleksander Tasev (SuperFounders) opened the event and explained their pre-accelerator programme, Till Ohrmann (Co-Founder & CEO of European Pirate Summit) presented what the Pirate Summit is all about. Participants also had the opportunity to learn what Hub:raum Krakow offers its members from Luka Sucic and later Stephane Gantchev (Launchub) took over for a fireside chat. Skopje was one of the 50 cities all across Europe and the Middle East that the Pirates on Shore tour is visiting.
The Slovenian startup Cashila, founded by Jani Valjavec and Tim Mitja Zagar, is the first company in the European Union to get a license for executing banking transactions via bitcoins. They have received the license from the Czech National Bank. While the first transaction has already been made, more are expected from Slovenia, Germany, Austria, as well as the Netherlands and France soon. The license is valid in all other European Union central banks which helps making paying your bills easier and faster. At the moment Cashila is closing its new investment round led by the Bulgarian Fund LauncHub which already invested in the startup in 2013.
Developers who attended the first ever mobile app conference in Macedonia, had an exclusive opportunity to discuss employment opportunities with representatives from the Croatian FIVE, the Bulgarian Despark and Macedonian HASLET in between breaks. MobileFirstMK took place this past Saturday and gathered national and international speakers, developers, mobile app and marketing enthusiasts. At the day long conference the participants were able to learn first hand about FIVE and the success of the Croatian startup from the CEO, Luka Abrus. Next up was the only female speaker who took the stage to present the basics of Mobile App Design. Following topics were about Android, IOS, Windows & Mobile Web, where each of the experts per OS gave the pros and cons for their field of expertise. The conference provided key information and insights for the participants and didn't fail in entertaining the crowd with topics such as: (What to do with) clients from hell? Before the wrap up, a panel discussed the future trends in mobile applications and came to the conclusion that in the future everything is going to be connected: from apps for smartphones, to fashion, to drones, home equipment, automobiles etc. So when creating a mobile app, don't see it just as an app for a smartphone, broaden your horizon and never forget about the design - because nobody wants to wear a monster on their wrist!
mBrain Train has successfully placed their innovative product called Smarting on the market and has already achieved profitability. In cooperation with clinics and research centers across Europe, Smarting has brought revenues to the team which is looking into developing a new product for the wearable market. Smarting is designed to assist Alzheimer and Parkinson's disease patients in tracking their brain activity. In order to offer their technology to wider population, and help in early diagnostics and prevention of neurological conditions, the team is currently looking for mentors and additional investment.
