Life sciences startup AFreeze has passed the first clinical trial of its CoolLoop cryo ablation system. Founded in Innsbruck in 2005, the company has developed a novel cardiac catheter to treat the most common cardiac arrhythmia, atrial fibrillation, using freezing temperatures (cryo ablation). According to the co-founders of AFreeze, cardiologist Dr. Florian Hintringer, and medical technician Dr. Gerald Fischer, the innovative technology offers a more efficient, more gentle and also faster treatment than that of existing therapies. As the first patient has now successfully been ablated, the product has gotten an important step closer to its release on the market.
