And the Vienna Startup Award 2015 goes to …
Aspiring startups had entered the contest with their ideas and in the end four winners were rewarded with 6,000 euros each. “We were very pleased to have 180 competitors which is a new record. But we were even more impressed by the high quality of the projects we had to select the winners from,” said Gerhard Hirczi, CEO of Vienna Business Agency.
The best things come in fours

Awards were handed out in the categories Innovative Products and Services, Rising Star, Social and Sustainable Enterprises, and Startup Pitch. Most innovative Product and Service award went to Crystalline Mirror Solutions, who are offering solutions in the field of optical measuring via high precision optics and laser systems.
The Rising Star award went to TourRadar, an online travel agency for group travel. Ruffboards who make longboards by recycling old snowboards and employ ex-convicts, won theawards for Social and Sustainable Enterprises. Robo, whose toys can be used by children to build and programme their own robot, won Best Startup Pitch.
“We are developing Vienna as an international startup hub,” said Vienna’s Vice-Mayor Renate Brauner at the awards ceremony in the Museumsquartier. “As the Vienna Startup Awards impressively demonstrate, this city already is a place where new business ideas are born and find traction successfully. Our goal is to further support this development,” she added.
A service to startups – “Gründen in Wien”
“Gründen in Wien” is Vienna’s open day where everyone can take a closer look at the startup scene in Austria’s capital. The event took place on 12 June and offered city walks to startup venues, open-air pitching sessions as well as entrepreneurial speed-dating, workshops and talks.
The Vienna Business Agency helps young entrepreneurs in Vienna with a variety of services, including coaching and support about founding, financing and expansion. “We are offering a special coaching to help young companies to support them in every step of their growth,” said Hirczi. “And the award is more than just money. We are confident it creates a lot of media attention for Vienna’s startup community as well.”
