With new financing models on the rise (media-for-equity, crowdfunding, convertible notes, etc.), one of the biggest costs that remains for startups is the cost of living of the employees. While the costs of rent and subsistence for individuals are running up to thousands of euros, startups are looking for various ways to offset them.
Klagenfurt-based think tank Die Gastfreundschaftliche GmbH, which is behind the initiative, hopes to offer 5-10 web mobile startups from Carinthia quality accommodation and food for half a year – or Bed and Breakfast (B&B), in exchange for 20-30% of their equity. According to the CEO of the company Motte Notsnik, this can be a game-changer: “We not only offer a great place for tourists, but also want to support businesses by lowering their costs of running the operation”.
