Before the start of Netflix in Austria in 2014, the public broadcasting service ORF secured their own streaming service by getting Vienna-based startup flimmit on board. The new series of Austrian well-known director David Schalko (called “Altes Geld”) shall be sold through the online platform in spring and air publicly only in autumn. The production costs of the series are estimated between four and five million euros but the last decision in this matter is still to be confirmed. In 2014, the ORF purchased shares of the video streaming service flimmit and aims to buy the majority of 88 per cent in 2015.
