polychromelab launches webshop for patented jackets
When passion and research mingle, exciting new products come to life. In this case, there’s good news for extreme sports enthusiasts: Being well-equipped and stylish at high altitudes may no longer be a dilemma since the Alta Quota jacket produced by Tyrolean startup polychromelab is available for sale starting this month.
Produced and tested in a mountain-top laboratory at 2.700m altitude, the jacket is the first application that uses the patented reversible laminate developed by startup duo Michele Stinco and Elisabeth Frey (see our profile of the founders couple) . The USP of the jacket is that it absorbs UV light and warms you up when worn on one side, but serves to keep you cool and protect you from the wind when worn on the other, metallic side.
Although not exactly a bargain at 700 euros a piece, the jacket already has a few eager customers in line topurchase it. “We have a list of people waiting for the jackets, which is why our expectations for sale are quite positive. We expect to sell 300 Alta Quota jackets till the end of this year.We are glad about each person who trusts in us and buys the jacket,” CEO Frey told inventures.eu.
Targeted at early adopters and true sports enthusiasts, a total of 500 jackets is available for sale online. Moreover, the users will be involved in the process of continuous improvement as the founders are eager to receive feedback. This is also the reason, why the two-person company, that has their high-tech fabric and jackets produced in Italy, has decided to sell the products via their own online shop, as opposed to using an external distributor. They also intend to sell their fabrics to original equipment manufacturers in the outdoor sector, however.
As numerous product design awards and lab results attest, polychromelab’s patented fabrics seem to be ideal for alpine conditions, where temperatures can change quickly. Frey and Stinco themselves spent countless hours climbing, skiing and snowboarding in the jacket as part of their R&D. “We think that everybody who will wear the Alta Quota Jacket will be very satisfied and impressed by its functions and quality,” Frey is convinced.
