The Austrian startup-company Vienna Water Monitoring GmbH has developped a stunningly quick method to check water for e.coli bacteria. What took up to 48 hours, can now be done in just 15 minutes. Thanks to the ColiMinder, developped by VWM, the water does no longer need to be tested in a lab. The ColiMinder is a device only some 30 cm tall and weighs a mere 14 kilos; it comes in various models that can be used in laboratories, as mobile or stationary devices. Currently, two ColiMinders are tested by the Technical University of Vienna in purification plants. Dr. Irene Fialka, general manager of startup incubator INiTS that supported VWM: “Water preparation certainly is a vital and seminal area of business. Offering mobile and quick services is of the essence. That is why we supported VWM in the development as a business-incubator.”
