Sher.ly hits Kickstarter target within a week
The Polish startup, which has developed a way to share files and folders privately and without any storage or size limitations, recently launched a Kickstarter campaign with the goal to raise 69.000 dollars in 30 days. Instead, the team hit their target already in the first week, and at the time of writing, it has been funded with 84.342 dollars from 483 backers (as of 12 June). The campaign expires on 4 July.
“We’ve been preparing for this moment for almost a year,” Blazej Marciniak, co-founder and CEO of sher.ly, told inventures.eu. “It’s a big push for us to keep working, [knowing that] people like it.”
So far, one person has donated 5.000 dollars, one has backed it with 500 dollars and more than half have put in “199 dollars or more”.
Sher.ly Inc. was founded in Krakow in 2009 by Marek Ciesla and Marciniak, entrepreneurs with experience in IT solutions. They work together with creative IT developers Krzysztof Koszyka, Wojciech Wojtanowski and Piotr Leszkowicz, and have an office in both theUS and Poland.
Sherlybox claims to work like a cloud, but instead of going online, all the data remains on the users’ personal drives. The device creates a private, invite-only network for sharing files and folders.
“We started working on our GatelessVPN in back in 2009,” Blazej said. “It took us an EU grant, one accelerator and two VC investments to get where we are. Network security technology is very complex to develop, but we are up for the challenge.”
With the crowdfunded money, the team is planning to go straight into mass production and – according to their Kickstarter page, offer worldwide distribution. The campaign is open for another 21 days.
