We may not have been around for long, but 2012 has definitely been an exciting year for inventures.eu – not least because of our launch on 7 November.
In the seven weeks of our public existence, we have had the pleasure to introduce you to a number of interesting entrepreneurs from Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Romania, Poland, Hungary, Serbia and Estonia and are planning to expand our scope next year. Also, we believe that we were able to show quite some guts, kicks and wits. Here are five we were particularly excited about.
Fredrik Debong: Vienna’s Sugar Daddy

Fredrik Debong is one of the key figures of the Austrian startup scene. inventures.eu met the co-founder of the mySugr app that aims to “eat diabetes” and learned that while he’s not so much into planning, he loves solving problems. Moreover, he likes mangos.
Our story, not least thanks to another Austrian startup authority – Andreas Klinger who shared the article – earned Fredrik the new nick name of “Sugar Daddy”. We’re not sure, if the loving husband and father of a son is too happy about that one, though.
Romy Sigl: ”I don’t like being on my own”

Romy Sigl is living proof that the Austrian startup scene is not all male-dominated and not limited to the capital of Vienna. As founder of CoWorking Salzburg and organiser of numerous startup events, it is efforts like that of Romy’s that really help to grow the entrepreneurial community.
We were also able to get some insight into her interesting personality: combining risk affinity with a stable background, a love for people with just the right amount of self-determination, Romy shows just what it takes to be an entrepreneur.

In our most read article, we introduced you to a lesser-known side of a major Austrian political activist. Looking beneath the noodle colander of Austria’s most famous pastafarian, we had an insightful and candid conversation with Niko Alm, the entrepreneur.
Niko gave us kudos for noticing the subtle display of his musical taste. “‘We basically all look the same in our office”, jokes the 37 year old, who has donned his best Helmet t-shirt for the occasion.“ – was his favourite part of the article, as he told us.
Stefana Popa: “Connecting the right people with the right opportunities”

Mihalache MichelThe social entrepreneur Stefana Popa has not only created a scalable business model (her Incubator107 is operating four Romanian cities with plans of international expansion); with her by successful concept of “teaching” people to follow their passions, she is sending out positive signals to the Romanian startup scene and society as a whole.
Stefana is truly a well-connected young woman. This was not least shown by the fact that her article is our third most read and got likes and shares within minutes of publication.
Lukáš Hudeček: Failure and the boiling frog syndrome
