Today, the Viennese startup formerly known as Railsonfire has announced its rebranding to Codeship, the relaunch of its product and interface as well as investment from Seedcamp.
The B2D software testing service rivalling solutions like the most wide spread but non-cloud-based Jenkins started off in 2011 providing support for programming language Ruby on Rails (hence the name Railsonfire) as a side project for the three co-founders Moritz Plassnig (CEO, 23), Florian Motlik (CTO, 26) and Manuel Weiss (Head of Design, 26). In summer 2012, Railsonfire turned into a fulltime job for the team of four (including Web Development Lead, Clemens Helm, 28), which relocated to Berlin in November.
Having broadened their portfolio and with a new user interface, the rebranded Codeship now offers “hosted continuous integration and deployment solution” to test changes made by developers of mobile and web apps using GitHub, Heroku, Ruby on Rails, Go, Java, Node.js, PHP and Python with more additions to follow.
What’s more, Codeship have received investment of below 50.000 euros from Seedcamp, who have been supporting the team over the last few months. Now they plan to focus on growing their customer base and, according to Plassnig, are talking to potential investors and business angels in Europe and the US.
Plassnig also told inventures.eu that Codeship plan to relocate across the Atlantic this year to take their product further.
“As co-founder and former CFO of STARTeurope, I believe that Europe is a great business location, however, you have to decide which location is best for your product and market. In our case, it would have made no sense to leave Vienna when we started out. Here we could develop our product unhurriedly and get feedback from our first customers. Once we validated our MVP, we went to Berlin because the market there is bigger and there are simply more developers. As soon our version is working stably and we have familiarised ourselves with the distribution channels, the USA are the place to be. All relevant partners are there, so are the thought leaders and investors from the field, who have the know how for this specific market, which you don’t get in Europe.”
We think we might have heard that one before…
