SunnyBAGs are shoulder bags and backpacks that double as personal power stations. How so? SunnyBAGs have flexible, water- and shock-resistant solar panels attached to them, so that you can charge any mobile device – phone, digital camera, mp3-player, you name it – as you go. The panels convert sunlight into electrical power and charge the SunnyBAG power box – a lithium ion battery – that comes with the bag. Thus, SunnyBAG offer an environmentally sustainable solution to the well-known problem of running out of juice.

Who is making it?

SunnyBAG are a startup from Graz founded by Stefan Ponsold. The original idea for a bag doubling as a charging device evolved from then Innovation Management student Stefan’s unhappiness with the battery performance of his iPhone. The first bags were made in the Ponsold family’s own upholstery business in 2008 (more about SunnyBAG’s story here). Four years later, SunnyBag are a team of six, they are just about to expand their business to the US and their practical and environmentally sustainable product is being recognised by satisfied customers and awards alike.

Who should I get one?

According to marketing savvy founder Stefan Ponsold there is a SunnyBAG for (almost) anyone – from ecologically aware and socially responsible globetrotters, cycling Facebook junkies on the go to jet setting businessmen. 

We think it’s the ideal gift for your super busy workaholic friend who’s running from meeting to meeting with no chance to recharge their mobile phone. Not only should this pitiful person be supported in their busy time schedule by providing them with the practical device that is SunnyBAG; by buying getting them one, you may also contribute to making them feel better and more wholesome as a person: SunnyBAGs are not only ecologically sustainable by using solar power and recycled materials, they also support socially responsible causes. Shoulder bags of the FACTION series are produced from old truck canvases by pro mente – an organisation to reintegrate people with mental problems, while SMART backpacks have been developed together with the NGO Doctors without Borders.
