Travelling around Europe and the U.S. with a video camera, Vala Halldorsdottir and Sesselja Vilhjalmsdottir from Iceland explore entrepreneurship on either side of the Atlantic. As a result, the documentary The Startup Kids gives insight to the different conditions, attitudes and resources young tech and web entrepreneurs are confronted with in both regions. Interviews with founders of Vimeo, Soundcloud, PlayFish, WordPress and Posterous illustrate what it means to be an entrepreneur.
The two filmmakers are not new to entrepreneurship themselves. Working together since 2009, they have started a board game production company, producing the bestselling board game Heilaspuni and are working on the mobile app KinWins. With their documentary they are hoping to motivate young people to become entrepreneurs themselves.
The film is distributed by Filmbuff and for those who got a taste for more: thisNovember screenings will be held in Warsaw, Kraków, Poznan, Ljubljana and Budapest. There is, of course, also the option for hosting a screening yourself.
