Two winners at climate change innovation camp
Ten finalists were competing at the first ever climate challenge – OdTebeZavisi, which took place in Macedonia. While the team who won the award for most innovative idea aims to develop “shoes and bikes that generate electricity for charging devices”, the award for the most innovative campaign went to “Viral Videos”. They took home 10,000 dollars each, for prototyping and executing their campaign.
It all started in December 2014 when Macedonian citizens where asked to submit innovative ideas to help combat climate change. At the end of the application period 130 ideas were submitted from all over Macedonia. The campaign “Your city, it depends on you” was organised by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Office in Skopje, and supported by the Swedish Embassy, USAID project for municipal strategies for climate change implemented by Milieu contact Macedonia, Faculty of Information Science and Computer Engineering (Finki ) and the Ministry of Environment and Physical planning.
All finalists are aiming to help living in a cleaner and healthier environment and while all ideas could be implemented, there were only two prizes. We are all eager to see a second edition of the OdTebeZavisi – climate challenge, so till then think about how you could help your city.
