uniVerso helps you through the chaos
uniVerso is THE App for Viennese University Students – it provides geographical orientation and personalized schedules for free. Financed through advertisements, established in Vienna and programmed in Berlin, the App will be launched with the beginning of this semester.
Studying at an university is probably the best school for life – especially when it comes to organize the daily business on your own. Which class do I have to attend, where is the building I need togo? All these questions are now solved with a slick smartphone-application. uniVerso is the new interface between students and the University of Vienna, approved by the University but executed by three students of business administration. Michael Lipinski (read more here) and two friends of him founded therefore in June 2012 the linis GmbH, and they managed to realize the app right to the start of the following winter semester.
So how does it work: First of all only enrolled students can use this application, tough it is connected to the official student server base. So you need to sign up with your matriculation number, and then fill in your name and your courses. On the landing page you will find three sections: university offers and events – the last two are also thought to generate revenues for the app developers. But in order not to annoy the 91.000 students in Vienna, founder Lipinski promises to publish only student-related ads there.
What are the main functions: In order to manage your daily university life the app connects with the universities database, downloads the schedules of all of your classes and exports them into your calendar. In addition to that all the Viennese faculties are enlisted in the app, complete with geographical data and (!) indoor maps of the building. So it’s more or less impossible to get lost in the university chaos – as long as the battery of your smartphone has enough power.
Signing up for classes within the app is not implemented yet, but planned for the future. In terms of the supported platforms, uniVerso will be available for both – iOS and Android. The software itself has been developed by the german branch of Eastbanc Technologies.
