Vollpension relaunched!
A couple of weeks ago, creative duo Gebrüder Stitch (the brothers Stitch), who are behind some of the most sought-after jeans in Vienna made headlines for arguably unfashionable reasons – as part of Vienna Design Week they recreated the nostalgic atmosphere of an afternoon spent at your grandparents in their workshop. The Vollpension (German for full pension), a pop-up café they opened up in their “butt lab” with almost no budget is their take on traditional Viennese coffeehouses with the broader objective of contributing to narrowing the generational divide.
Vollpension relaunchedMore than just emulating the physical space by bringing in retro furniture, LPs, children’s photos and bric-a-brac, the Stitches turned their own workshop into a unique experience with its own personality. By getting senior citizens with cross-generational conversation as well as cake-baking skills on board, they created a realm where people of all ages could sit and chat over a cup of filter coffee and homemade cakes in the middle of true-to-life surroundings complete with crochet table cloths and a live budgie. Judging by the number of devoted followers on Facebook – 1.825 and counting – they definitely struck a chord with their audience.
Due to popular demand, the Gebrüder Stitch have decided to relaunch Vollpension until Christmas. It will be open every Friday, Saturday, Sunday on the four weekends before Christmas. So, if you want to get your face stuffed with Strudel, your eyesight blurry from Eierlikör or just spend some time in great cross-generational company, go to Mariahilferstraße 101/3 in Vienna. We are already looking forward to their next venture – however wacky it might be. Anyone want to challenge them?
