What’s going on in Austria?
The New Year has kicked off with a number of startup events – the Europas, Startup Live, Startup Weekend… Here are a few suggestions as to what is coming up in Austria in the next few weeks.
NEW! Sektor5 will host a Simulcast of a lean startup workshop by Rafael Balbi. The topic of the event – organised by the Lean Startup Circle Vienna – will be “How to know if your Startup is cheating on you and what to do?”

NEW! At the end of the month, Startup Mingle will hold its first of a series of discussions. The topic: Crowdfunding.

Join other startups and professionals in the creative industries for an After Work evening of networking and new encounters.
Organised by STARTeurope, Startup Lounge offers a monthly platform for startups to meet and network with experienced entrepreneurs, investors and experts. It takes place every second Thursday of the month. The topic this month: “Startups & Politics – an Oxymoron?”
TEDxViennaLive is organising a get-together for all interested in attending a live cast from TED2013 in Long Beach, California. Free of charge.
The Startup Marketing Get-together kick-off event aims to bring together the ones involved – but also the ones only interested – in marketing of the startup scene. People working in related disciplines are also welcome to join.

betapitch Vienna is a one-day event that targets startups from Austria and CEE, and provides them with a platform to present their business ideas to a panel of experts. Apply now and be one of the 10 teams that will be selected to participate.

The Hub Vienna Accelerator 2013 kick-off will be an intro to financial management. Expert Johann Humenberger will give an overview of what terms like budget, cash flow and VAT actually mean and how they work.

Fifteen selected applicants will get the chance to participate in the 6th build! Impuls Ideenwettbewerb, a two-day workshop that will allow them to work on and expand their entrepreneurial ideas. At the end of March, they will hold a final presentation in front of an expert jury.

The Idea Generation workshops will answer questions like: How can I trigger a change? How do I come up with an idea for a social enterprise? How and where do I start? The event is part of a series of workshops organised by the Social Impact Award team, and taking place at different locations across Austria.
What you should also know: The Social Impact Award 2013 is now accepting applications from Austrian startups interested in running a social business.

Also watch out for the Lean Startup Circle Vienna. Accroding to co-organiser Lukas Fittl, the meetup for “entrepreneurs who want to learn and share knowledge related to the Lean Startup method, and other tools for getting to market faster” will return with a “mobile edition” soon.
